OPERATION IMPACT AND COVID 19
Usually, our Operation IMpact distribution occurs in May or June, just prior to hurricane season. The purpose is to equip all of our Meals on Wheels seniors with shelf-stable food in case a storm prevents our drivers from making their regular deliveries. Due to the COVID 19 outbreak, we moved up this delivery to March 2020. In case the virus impacts our deliveries, our seniors will have a supply of emergency food now that can also be used for hurricane season. We will likely have to make additional deliveries of shelf-stable food to get our seniors through the COVID-19 outbreak and also prepare for hurricane season. Additional funds for Meals on Wheels are needed more than ever!
HOW YOU CAN HELP DURING THE COVID 19 OUTBREAK AND BEYOND
We still have evolving needs as the COVID 19 outbreak unfolds in the Greater Houston area. Meals on Wheels is altering its delivery methods to ensure the safety of our seniors- delivering a week’s worth of frozen meals at a time to reduce contact, while phoning each senior regularly to check on them and provide social support. This has added costs to our program, as well.
