MEALS ON WHEELS AND COVID-19
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we moved our annual Operation IMpact delivery of emergency, shelf-stable food to March 2020. In case the virus or a hurricane disrupts our deliveries, seniors will have a supply of food to access.
We still have evolving needs as the COVID 19 outbreak unfolds in the Greater Houston area. Meals on Wheels is altering its delivery methods to ensure the safety of our seniors- delivering a week’s worth of frozen meals at a time to reduce contact, while phoning each senior regularly to check on them and provide social support. This has added costs to our program, as well.
Thanks to community support, we have been able to feed more seniors during this critical time- both seniors from our own wait list and clients of partner nonprofits including YMCA of Greater Houston, Chinese Community Center and Catholic Charities.
We also have wish lists on Amazon.com for those who wish to purchase needed items.
