HOUSTON (April 4, 2023) – Join Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston’s Vic Samuels Center
for Volunteerism and Civic Service
on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Linda and Fred C.
Marshall
building to celebrate the SERVE HOUSTON AmeriCorps Close of Service ceremony.
The ceremony commemorates the completion of the seven-month term of service for 18
program participants.

The ceremony will take place at 3215 Fannin St., Houston TX 77004 beginning at 3:30 PM and
will feature impact stories from each member. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is scheduled
to make congratulatory remarks and confer Congressional certificates to each of the program
graduates.

“It has been an honor to watch this cohort learn and grow and we are delighted to have played
a part in their service journey,” said Andréa R. Shiloh, Vice President of Volunteerism and Civic
Service with Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, “we cannot wait to see what they
accomplish next.”

The SERVE HOUSTON AmeriCorps program places teams of diverse, service-minded individuals
at nonprofit organizations across Houston affording participants the opportunity to learn, lead,
and make an impact through service projects geared towards building a healthier future. The
AmeriCorps program is founded on the principles of servant leadership and members serve
children, seniors, and veterans across numerous partner organizations. It is part of IM’s Vic
Samuels Center for Volunteerism and Civic Service, which establishes a positive and lasting
impact on the Greater Houston community through organized service and leadership.

SERVE HOUSTON is currently accepting applications for the summer 2023 class. The application
period closes on Wednesday, April 5. Once accepted into the program, members are invited to
an in-person site matching fair on April 17 where they can meet site hosts and learn more
about partner organizations. The program begins on May 8, concludes on August 10, and is
