IM’s offices are closed today because of the storm and flooding in and around Houston. IM has taken measures to prepare clients for the storm and this closure.

On Monday, Meals on Wheels drivers delivered a shelf stable package to all Meals on Wheels Seniors. The package included canned soup, powdered milk, juice and ready to eat meals.

Seniors enrolled in the program have been notified that we will not be able to deliver their regular meal today and to eat one of the shelf stable storm meals.

Staff and volunteers put in extra hours on Monday to be sure Meals on Wheels seniors were ready for the storm.

Refugee Services staff worked to prepare refugee clients for the storm. On Monday, case managers called all newly arrived refugees to ensure they had a strong understanding of the situation in their native language. The case managers went over flooding safety, asked about their food and water rations and gave them other safety and preparation tips.

If you are wondering about volunteer opportunities to help those affected by the storm, please stay tuned in to IM’s Facebook and website. We will post opportunities and information as we receive the details.
