HOUSTON (April 29, 2016) – Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) is deeply honored to receive funding from Shell for storm meals and bottled water for homebound seniors.

These meals will be delivered May 21, to the 4,000 Meals on Wheels seniors as part of IM’s Operation IMpact program.

Shell is providing support through benefit-in-kind, partner and direct contributions to Operation IMpact. The bottled water is being donated by Coca-Cola.

Additional funding is coming from the Harris County Area Agency on Aging (HCAAA).

“While IM is launching Operation IMpact in time for hurricane season,” said Martin B. Cominsky, IM President & CEO, “the recent floods proved that our seniors need shelf-stable meals for times throughout the year when our drivers can’t safely navigate impassible streets.

“Shell’s sponsorship of this program is a huge lift for a seniors, providing them with added security even during inclement weather.”

Shell announced the grant to IM and several other community organizations at a ceremony today in front of City Hall kicking off the 29th annual National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Spring Nationals April 29 – May 1.

While at the ceremony, DSR driver Ron Capps, got behind the wheel of a Meals on Wheels truck to help make some much needed deliveries.

“I jumped at the opportunity to help people who are still in need,” said DSR driver Ron Capps. “I watched the flooding unfold and am really honored that along with our sponsors, Shell, Pennzoil, NAPA and NHRA, I’m able to lend a hand in the recovery efforts.”
