Dear IM Leaders and Staff,  We are honored that Mayor Turner and his Special Events Director, Susan Christian, asked us to be one of the lead organizers for the Monday evening’s Celebration of Life of President George H.W. Bush.

IM is leading the shared prayer effort under Greg Han’s guidance.  Volunteer Houston is leading a colorful and fun socks collection at the event to remember President Bush and to collect “warm items” for our Meals on Wheels seniors’ holiday gift bags.  Meals on Wheels and Volunteer Services will be there to handle the logistics and hopefully, hundreds of socks will be collected.  As Houston’s Points of Light affiliate, Volunteer Houston will be carrying the banner for the importance of volunteerism and service, ideas which President Bush so warmly embraced and encouraged.  A special way to remember a great president is by donating your time to IM or through Volunteer Houston to help build a greater Houston helping other nonprofits.

I encourage you to attend the festivities tomorrow night.  It will be quite an evening of music beginning at 7 PM in front of City Hall at 901 Bagby.  Some of the President’s favorite artists will perform including the Houston Symphony, Clay Walker, Larry Gatlin, Yolanda Adams and La Mafia.  The evening is free.  Please join us in this special City of Houston hometown tribute.
