Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Working with volunteers, I see this question answered every day!  Whether volunteering with recently resettled refugees looking to start a new life in the United States, or delivering a hot meal and a friendly face to our Meals on Wheels clients, I find the faithful volunteers of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) are generous, dependable and committed to serving their community. IM’s mission could not be met without the support of 4,000-plus passionate volunteers who give of themselves to help others.

To recognize those truly exceptional volunteers who go above and beyond, IM created the Volunteer of the Month program in 2016.  Each month, an overachieving volunteer is selected to be honored as that month’s Volunteer of Month.  Looking back at 2016 we were so grateful for this work that did we recently honored them with a celebratory dinner. Those recognized are:

  • January: Paula Wagner
  • February: Alice McGee
  • March: Lindsey Bartlett
  • April: Linda Kuhn
  • May: IM Interns (Aliana, Ashley B, Ashley D, Ayat, Irma, Le’ah, Rebeca, Tanisha)
  • June: Sarah Wagner
  • July: David McBride
  • August: Imran Hasan
  • September: Sophie & Quinn Lenik
  • October: Silvia Cederberg
  • November: Jan Hughes
  • December: Kyle Sellers

We also announced our Volunteer of the Year: Alice McGee.  Alice has been a volunteer with IM for more than three years and in that time has served in nearly every volunteer role that IM has to offer.  Currently, Alice serves as Lead Administrative Volunteer and is an essential member of the Volunteer Services team.  Alice works a minimum of 30 hours a week and has so many responsibilities that we sometimes forget she is a volunteer.  It’s safe to say that Alice makes a huge IMpact at IM, not only on our clients but on our staff as well.  Our most sincere thanks to Alice and this wonderful group of volunteers, and all of our volunteers for all that they do!
