2009 AniMeals on Wheels Food Drive!

Tuesday, March 24, 6:30-9 a.m. — aniMeals on Wheels for Greater Houston (aMOWGH) is suffering a pet food shortage! Interfaith Ministries' program, which benefits clients of Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston by delivering donated dog and cat food, does not have enough donations to provide for its more than 200 senior clients. Help us restock our pet food pantry by dropping off dry or wet food for dogs or cats at Interfaith Ministries' offices, 3217 Montrose Boulevard. IM will also accept gift cards to businesses that sell pet food. Donations are welcome anytime throughout the year.

aniMeals is also celebrating its second anniversary. The program began when some Meals on Wheels drivers noticed that their senior clients were sharing their delivered meals with their pets. Some seniors have to make the difficult choice of feeding their pet, purchasing medications or feeding themselves. aniMeals helps to alleviate these tough choices.

The program now serves 227 seniors with an average of two pets each. Pet food is delivered to the clients' homes monthly. At the beginning of this year, aMOWGH began to notice that the pet food supply was not keeping up with the need. The program's seniors are now at risk of receiving a reduced amount of pet food for the month until the pet food supply is replenished.

Want to do more? Sign up for a route, donate dog or cat food at the IM offices, 3217 Montrose @ Westheimer, or conduct a pet food drive in your community.
