aniMeals aniMeals on Wheels is in great need of donations

Many seniors depend on aniMeals every month to feed their pets, but for the first time in the history of the aniMeals program, there is a shortage of donations. We are at risk of not having enough food for the pet companions of our homebound seniors in the MOW program. We would like to thank the Rescue Bank and Carter's Pet Depot, who joined together to donate 1,000 lbs. of pet food to help lessen our shortage. Donations of dog and cat food, and/or gift cards to local pet stores, would help us to continue to deliver this greatly appreciated service. For more information, please call or e-mail Stephanie Kimball at 713.533.4948, or drop donations off at the front desk. Read more about aniMeals...

Summer Volunteers Nevolunteerseded

Many volunteers take vacations during the summer months which gives you an opportunity to try out our programs and determine if you would like to become a more regular volunteer. Volunteers are needed to deliver groceries and/or pet food to seniors in our community. Please contact our Volunteer Services department for more details.

The new funding will add approximately 600 homebound seniors to the daily meal delivery program and an additional 100 of the most at risk will receive additional breakfast and weekend meals. more

Senior Hunger Growing

Senior Citizens are more than a priority of the community - they are the community. Seniors represent 7.4% of the greater Houston population. Houston seniors who receive meals from Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston, without intervention, may one day become men and women who have worked hard their entire lives, now retired on a fixed income and spending their last years battling hunger. With the senior population as one of the fastest growing in Texas, at a rate of 184% over the next 33 years, the issue of senior hunger will only grow worse without help. Read more

Cecile Ann Wichroski, known as Patty to her friends, has lived alone for 14 years. Unfortunately, because of a string of health challenges Cecile found it is getting more and more difficult to get the proper nutrition she requires. Read more about Patty and how you can help seniors just like her.
