IM is proud to offer several outreach services and to host many
events every year to benefit our community and the programs of
IM. We rely on support from concerned community members to help
us form and implement our fundraising, outreach and community
service initiatives. By finding out more about these services
or by joining one of our committees you will help ensure the continuation
of the programs and services at the high quality to which our
clients have become accustomed. View our events
calendar for upcoming activities.

Office of Disaster Preparedness
IM's Office of Disaster Preparedness provides, training, guidance
and technical assistance to congregations interested in developing
a congregational disaster plan. Living on the Texas Gulf
Coast, the question is not if disaster will strike, but
when. If experience has taught us anything it is that preparation
is the key to survival. The Faith Community has been responding
to human suffering caused by natural disaster, war, and terrorism
for centuries; historically serving those who would have otherwise
fallen through the cracks of other helping systems. With this
in mind, IM has developed a Faith Based Disaster Preparedness
Program. We invite congregations in the Greater Houston area to
partner with us in forming a network of congregations trained
and ready to respond, when called upon, to help Houston recover
from a disaster. For more information please contact Jennifer
Posten .
Faith Tours
Faith tours provide opportunities for congregations, groups and
organizations to visit religious places of worship and learn of
their beliefs, heritage and culture. These tours create opportunities
to dialogue with other religious groups to help dispel prejudices,
find commonalities, increase knowledge, and discover a respect
for each other's individuality and faith tradition. Individuals
may work with the Faith Tours manager to help plan a tour for
their group. Contact Dr.
Paul Roby for more information.
Gala Committee
This committee will plan and implement an Annual Gala event
to raise public awareness about and funds for IM. The Gala committee
will oversee all activities related to the program, including
corporate sponsorship, program development, administration, etc.
Committee will meet as needed, with more frequency as event approaches.
Contact Frank
Levy for more information.
Interfaith Day of Service Planning Committee
Committee actively participates in the planning, recruitment
and organization of annual Interfaith Day of Service event. During
the peak planning season, the committee meets at least once a
month. Committee members serve for one planning season and can
roll over for multiple years. Contact Catherine
Barry for more information.
Interfaith Relations Committee
Committee serves in an advisory role to determine in which interfaith
opportunities to participate and which to initiate or pursue.
It also is a means for IM to cultivate relationships in diverse
faith communities. Decisions made by this committee guide IM's
interfaith activities. Committee meets every other month, and
members serve two-year terms. Membership should represent Houston's
diverse faith community. Contact Dr.
Paul Roby for more information.
Prayer Vigils
Throughout the year IM hosts prayer vigils all over Houston in
response to issues that affect the community. Recent vigils include:
participation in National Hunger Awareness day by hosting a candlelight
vigil in the East End; gathering together various members of the
faith community outside the Rothko Chapel within 24 hours of the
start of war in Iraq; and a vigil commemorating the one-year anniversary
of the September 11th tragedies. IM is not interested in making
political statements, only in promoting healing and understanding.
We do not use vigils as an opportunity to promote a particular
agenda, nor do we allow others to use vigils to that end. Vigils
usually last less than 30 minutes. They feature speakers of various
faiths and promote tolerance above all else.
For information on upcoming vigils, contact Dr.
Paul Roby.
Women's Gathering Steering Committee
Committee plans interfaith opportunities for women, namely the
"Spiritual Gathering for Women of Faith" event, but
also experiential outings. It offers an opportunity for women
to meet each other and learn of other faiths. Committee meets
every other month, and members serve two-year terms. Recruitment
is based on past participation and interest in interfaith topics
for women. Contact Lou
Keels for more information.
