Client Stories

Cecile Ann Wichroski recently began receiving Meals on Wheels Service. Cecile is pictured right, the background photo is of her and her late husband whom she still speaks to everyday.

Cecile Ann Wichroski, known as Patty to her friends, has lived alone for 14 years. Unfortunately, because of a string of health challenges Cecile found it is getting more and more difficult to get the proper nutrition she requires. "I had been eating mostly TV dinners. Sometimes, I can make something for myself , but I was thankful to have my neighbors who cook and would bring me dinner sometimes."

Cecile recently began receiving daily nutritious meals from Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston. "I received my first meal today, and it was very good." Cecile is so thankful that she can rely on a balanced meal each day to help keep her healthy. Cecile is a diabetic and it is important for her eat the right nutrients at the right time. Thanks to the smiling face who delivers her meal every day, she no longer has to worry about that.

However, like many Houston seniors, Cecile was on a waiting list that exceeded six months. "I have been on the waiting list for about six to eight months, it was a very long time to wait, it felt like I have been waiting for a year."

Currently, more than 500 seniors in need of nutrition are on a waiting list, and the list continues to grow each month. We can end senior hunger with just $5 a day.
