Houston’s top elected officials, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, will join the city’s beloved Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale at IM’s May 10 Tapestry Gala to be honored as Harvey Heroes.

The gala, which will be held at the Hilton Americas from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m., is IM’s largest fundraising event and is expected to be extra special this year with Mattress Mack as the keynote speaker. He will share his story of opening his Gallery Furniture stores to help hundreds of displaced Houstonians, among other acts of unparalleled generosity. Mack will be joined by Judge Emmett and Mayor Turner, whose stories of going above and beyond the call of duty to rescue and protect the city’s people will also be told.

IM will also put a spotlight on the unsung heroes of Harvey: its own volunteers who generously gave their time, energy and utmost dedication to the Meals on Wheels, Refugee Services, Interfaith Relations and Volunteer Houston programs. Each volunteer’s heartfelt story will be shared among moments of song and festivities against a backdrop of audio and visual delight.

The gala’s honorary chairs are Maria and Neil Bush.

The presenting sponsor is Shell Oil Company. Shell representatives will be joined by Brigitte and Bashar Kalai, Sippi and Ajay Khurana, Nihala and Shaukat Zakaria, the Zandstra family, the Subramanian family, and representatives from Frost Bank, CenterPoint Energy and Valley, an Elior Company.
