Houston! is committed to teaching individuals
and families, members of faith communities, non-profit organizations
and small businesses how to be more disaster resistant; by recruiting,
training and mobilizing volunteers for relief and recovery efforts;
and by coordinating the efforts of faith-based disaster recovery organizations
with governmental disaster response agencies.
Programs and Initiatives of Ready Houston
Interfaith Disaster Preparedness Conferences
The annual conferences focus on providing faith communities with effective tools that will help them prepare for and respond to disaster. These educational programs cover natural disasters, public health emergencies and man-made catastrophes. Local and national recognized experts in these areas share their knowledge and years of field experience with attendees.
Houston Interfaith Disaster Response Association (HIDRA)
HIDRA brings together a broad cross section of Houston’s diverse faith community to provide disaster preparedness and response planning and training to develop and implement a unified response to local disasters.
Volunteer Leadership Corps
The mission of VLC is to recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to respond to “the call” to help our community recover from the aftermath of disaster through planned and coordinated relief and long-term recovery efforts. VLC Members receive volunteer management training which will certify them to lead the thousands of spontaneous unaffiliated, untrained volunteers who come forward to help those who are displaced and/or in need in the aftermath of a disaster. Other VLC training components are CEMC, Spiritual & Emotional Care, and Family & Community Preparedness.
Community Emergency Medication Center Training
Community Emergency Medication Center (CEMC) training educates Houston’s residents to participate in the City’s official response to public health emergencies. The class provides awareness training on the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), the Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI): Community Emergency Medication Center (CEMC) setup, flow and breakdown, National Incident Management System ICS 100 & 700, and Tactical Communication training.
Spiritual & Emotional Care Training
Spiritual & Emotional Care training provides VLC Members with tools to help them and their volunteer teams, and those impacted by the disaster, cope with the stress, suffering, fear, and uncertainties they experience.
Family & Community Preparedness Training
Ready Houston! seminars are fun and interactive events that assist families and community prepare for disasters by developing and implementing a plan that helps reduce human suffering in the aftermath of a disaster.
